As an ER Physician with 20 years experience looking into ears I can honestly say  this is an excellent little otoscope when it comes to function and durability. I  have not seen anything that comes close to this in the marketplace when it comes  to seeing an eardrum or inside the ear canal at this price point. There will  always be an occasional reviewer who may have a defect or problem that will get  frustrated and leave a negative review. Sometimes it is simply a matter of an  ear canal filled with earwar you can not see beyond. Sometimes it is just  someone who has no clue as to what they are doing and does not have the patience  to learn. This is OK and that is what doctors are for. IMHO most people can  learn to do home ear exams and you will not find a better value in an otoscope  than this LED model if you decide you want to learn. We also sell for a few $  less the Original Dr Mom which uses an incandescent bulb which is also an  excellent otoscope but you lose some of the advantages of the LED (batteries  last forever, bulbs rarely go out). We also sell the new 4th Gen Dr Mom LED  which IMHO is as good as any W/A model I have ever used but it costs a few  dollars more. If you are buying an otoscope to actually use as a Doctor Mom and  you decide to go with a less expensive model than ours I suggest you at least  purchase our .95 Dr Mom Original to compare. I think you will quickly see how  spending a little extra money will pay off big time when it comes to having a  very functional device to see clearly inside the ear. Dr Mom LED Advantages-Same  magnification and focal length as the W/A so what you see is just as clear if  not clearer due to the very bright led light. LED's contains no fragile filament  like incandescent bulbs. Includes 3 sizes of specula for Adult, Child and  Infant. Pocket size packs easily in a mom's purse. Very informative weblink with  high resolution photos of both normal and diseased eardrums and detailed use  instructions written by an ER Physician
It is wise to take the time to find and read the reviews and compare before  purchasing an otoscope. An otoscope that does not function well is useless.
