This is a laser cut, die formed guard that is formed to the shape of the OEM cast side cases that are so susceptible to lever impacts and whatever else the trail has to throw at you. This aluminum alloy guard is attached to the side case by the use of Silicon adhesive. It is a lightweight, stand alone component that works well in conjunction with any skid-plate and does not affect disassemble.
*The Silicone adhesive is not include with the Shields but can be found at many auto, motorcycle, and hardware stores.
Though you can never protect yourself from that big 4th gear get off in a rock garden, the protection is great. Having the two metal layers sandwiching a layer of silicon gives you the protection from impacts.  On the rare occasion that the case cracks underneath, you don't loose all your crankcase oil on the trail side.
